NORWAY – Norwegian courts have decided that the self-declared Neo-Nazi Anders Breivik will receive US$40,000 compensation to cover legal costs by the Norwegian State for Human Rights Violations. The court decision was released today and in what was a striking coincidence, corresponded with the 127th anniversary of Adolf Hitlers birth. Adolf Hitler who’s national socialist party was responsible for the greatest crimes in European history and who’s cause Anders Breivik recently pledged his allegiance to was born on the 20th of April 1889.

The coincidence has been met with a series of internet memes.

Ander’s Breivik shot and killed 69 child participants of a summer camp hosted by the Workers’ Youth League (AUF) on the island of Utøya after exploding a bomb in central Oslo that killed 8 in 2011. His motivations were stemmed by a want to slow a tide of Muslim immigration into Europe.

In a special court, purpose built at the prison he is serving a 21-year sentence, he claimed to the Norwegian State that article 3 and 8 the European Convention of Human Rights had been violated. His claims revolved around repeated strip searches, 22 to 23 hours per day in isolation and the denial of contact with other inmates.

The Norwegian court ruled that the right not to be subjected to inhuman treatment represented “a fundamental value in a democratic society” and also applied to “terrorists and killers”.

The decision has evoked disgust among many across the world at a time in which Europe’s Human Rights credentials have been challenged by a persistent migration crisis.

Neo-Nazi groups have historically staged events around the anniversary of Adolf Hitlers birthday and these events explicitly celebrate Hitler’s legacy and world vision of Aryan supremacy.

It’s unclear as to how such a sensitive public decision could have been made on a date so symbolic of the very ideology espoused by Anders Breivik and his murderous crimes.
