[dropcap size=big]T[/dropcap]his may be one of the most disturbing things you will ever see. At 09:30pm on Friday night (23rd May 2014) a man opened fire in Isla Vista in California. The man killed seven people and wounded seven more.
A press conference held the following morning confirmed that the gunman acted alone and that the below video material made by 22-year-old Elliot Rodger is being reviewed as evidence in the massacre. In the below video “Elliot Rodger” describes his experience in relating to women and humanity at large as being the motive behind his actions.

Rarely are we exposed to such insight into the emotions of people that commit these crimes. The nature of the gun debate in the United States has two sides that are both equal in importance. Its clear that a mature conclusion to the debate on the availability of firearms is required as well as a better understanding of what social mechanisms motivate such action.
